Mercury Glazing further expands aluminium vertical slider offer

Specialist sash window fabricator Mercury Glazing has further strengthened its aluminium

vertical sliding sash window portfolio with the introduction of the new Smart VS400 system.

The new VS400 joins Mercury’s established Smart VS600 and specialist PVC-U vertical

slider range, further extending the choice available to customers across heritage,

refurbishment, residential and commercial applications.

Mercury has been manufacturing vertical sliding sash windows since 2002 and is one of a

few specialist fabricators with extensive manufacturing expertise across both PVC-U and

aluminium vertical sliders.

Martin Halford, Managing Director at Mercury Glazing, said: “Vertical sliders have been at

the heart of Mercury for more than two decades, so the VS400 is a natural addition to

our portfolio. It builds on our specialist sash window expertise while giving customers

another aluminium window solution for a wide range of applications.”

Designed to replicate the character of a traditional sash window, the thermally broken

VS400 combines classic aesthetics with the strength, durability and low-maintenance

advantages of aluminium.

The VS400 features mitred and crimped sash joints for a traditional jointed appearance,

with optional sash horns available to further replicate the character of a traditional sash

window. Available in either slide-only or tilt-and-slide configurations, its flush opening

has no projection into or out of the building, making it particularly practical for schools,

hospitals and other high-occupancy buildings, as well as domestic and heritage projects.

On tilt-and-slide configurations, the tilt-in facility allows the external glass to be cleaned

safely from inside the building, while Smart’s Quick Glaze Bead supports faster

installation.

The VS400 accommodates 24mm, 28mm, 32mm and 36mm sealed glazing units and

can achieve overall U-values of 1.4 W/m²K with a 1.0 W/m²K centre pane and 1.0

W/m²K with a 0.5 W/m²K centre pane. It can be manufactured up to 1600mm wide and

2800mm high, subject to configuration, with a maximum sash weight of 50kg.

Martin concluded: “Our experience means we understand the aesthetics, performance

and practical considerations that can determine the right vertical slider for a particular

project. With specialist solutions across both PVC-U and aluminium, we can help

customers access more opportunities and provide the fabrication expertise and support

they need.”

The Smart VS400 is the latest addition to Mercury’s comprehensive aluminium portfolio,

which includes windows, bifold and sliding doors, entrance doors and commercial

aluminium products.
